River Mill Park Opens in Occoquan
A scenic piece of land has just been reopened to the Town of Occoquan after more than 50 years of restricted access. Fairfax Water Chairman Philip W. Allin,Vice-Chairman Frank R. Begovich and Board Member Harry Day, joined Occoquan Mayor Liz Quist in welcoming residents and guests to the site now known as River Mill Park following a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 30. Once the location of River Station, a small water treatment plant owned and operated by Fairfax Water, the small piece of land overlooking the Occoquan River was closed off to the public until recently. Due to population growth in the region and the establishment of newer, larger water treatment facilities, River Station was closed in 2007. The park is located at 458 Mill Street, Occoquan, Virginia, and is open to the public and pets.
