About Us
Fairfax Water is Virginia’s largest water utility and one of the 25 largest water utilities in the country, serving one out of every four Virginians who obtain their water from public utilities. Over 2 million people in the Northern Virginia communities of Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Herndon, Vienna, Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax City, Fort Belvoir, and Dulles International Airport depend on Fairfax Water for reliable drinking water.
Chartered in 1957 by the Virginia State Corporation Commission as a public, non-profit water utility, Fairfax Water is governed by a 10-member Board composed of Fairfax County citizens and appointed by the elected Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. A general manager, supported by a staff of 483 water professionals, manages the day-to-day operations of Fairfax Water.

The Fairfax Water Health Plan, which includes medical, dental and vision coverage, is offered to all permanent full-time employees and their eligible dependents.
Coverage is effective the 1st day of month after hire if hired between the 1st and 15th of the month. If hired between the 16th and 31st of the month, coverage is effective the 1st day of the 2nd month after hire.

Fairfax Water Retirement Program
A defined benefit plan in which all regular full-time employees are enrolled at the time of hire at no cost to employees. Employees are vested after five years of service.

Deferred Compensation Plan
A deferred compensation plan which employees can voluntarily participate in with a maximum contribution as established by the IRS on a yearly basis. Employees may contribute pre-tax dollars to a 457b and/or post-tax dollars to a 457 (Roth).

Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML)
Up to 240 hours of paid leave in a rolling 12-month period for qualifying continuous absences that are covered under the Family and Medical Leave Act.

All regular employees are enrolled in the Group Life Insurance Plan at no cost to employees. The effective date follows the same rule as health insurance.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA and DFSA)
A Flexible Spending Account is an employee benefit that allows you to set aside money from your paycheck, pre-tax, to pay for healthcare and dependent care expenses. The IRS establishes the maximums rollover amount and the annual contribution limits. The plan year runs from January 1 to December 31. You have until March 31, of the following year to use your balance or forfeit the remaining amount.

Child/Adult Care Reimbursement
The Child and Adult Care Reimbursement program provides a subsidy to partially reimburse full-time, regular employees for direct Child Care and Adult Care expenses that are not reimbursed by other sources. Reimbursement is based on income eligibility levels and adjusted total annual household income.

Reimbursement of approved attendance at professional conferences and seminars

Tuition Reimbursement
Available for approved and successfully completed college courses, with an annual dollar limit equal to the cost of 9 undergraduate semester hours at George Mason University.

Long-Term Disability
Effective after 36 months of employment with Fairfax Water. The benefit is equivalent to 66.7% of base pay at no cost to the employee.
