Tips for Hiring a Plumber During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, customers may be self-isolating to varying degrees but may still need to have a plumber in your home for repairs.  Many local plumbers are taking extra safety measures to ensure the safety of their customers and employees.  Below are tips for hiring a plumber during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • When scheduling the visit, ask your plumber the following questions:

    • Can you request a touch-free transaction?  This will allow for payment and documentation to be completed online or over the phone, without exchanging paperwork or writing utensils.

    • Are procedures in place to monitor the health of plumbers and employees of the company?

    • What precautions will the plumber be using while working in your home?  Many are using personal protective equipment and practicing social distancing.

    • Does the company provide employees with cleaning wipes, gloves, face coverings, and other personal protective equipment?

    • What are precautions the resident can take to protect the plumber?

  • Once the plumber visit is scheduled, prepare your home for their visit.  Consider the path the plumber will need to take to get to the work area.  Make sure surfaces in the work area are properly cleaned and have hand soap and cleaners ready for use during the visit.

  • While the plumber is at your home, make sure you and the plumber practice all safety measures agreed upon when you scheduled the visit.  These measures may include wearing face coverings and practicing social distancing.
