Seasonal Changes and Low Flow in the Potomac May Impact Taste and Odor of Tap Water

November 17, 2022
Drinking Water Photo

Fairfax Water customers who receive water from the Potomac River (those in the northern, western, and central parts of the county) may notice a change in the taste and odor of their tap water. This change is related to the normal seasonal deterioration of fall leaves and recent low water levels in the Potomac.  Water quality data shows that this is not impacting the safety of your water and is only impacting the aesthetics of the water.  This is a temporary issue and will improve as flow levels in the Potomac River increase.

Customers who have questions on this or other matters can contact our customer service department by emailing customers@fairfaxwater.org or calling 703-698-5800.
