Imagine a Day Without Water is October 20, 2022

October 20, 2022

On October 20, 2022, Fairfax Water joins elected officials, water utilities, community leaders, educators, and businesses from across the country as part of the seventh annual Imagine a Day Without Water, a nationwide day of education and advocacy about the value of water.

Led by the US Water Alliance’s Value of Water Campaign, over a thousand organizations across the country will join Imagine a Day Without Water on October 20, 2022, to raise awareness about the role of water infrastructure in our lives and the importance of investment. This year’s event focuses on inviting people to take the #OneWaterPledge and learn more about drinking water sources and where our wastewater goes.

“Imagine a Day Without Water encourages people to know more about where their water comes from and reinforces the linkage between infrastructure investment and reliable, safe water,” stated Jamie Hedges, Fairfax Water’s General Manager.

Imagine a Day Without Water was envisioned as an advocacy and education day that asked Americans to think about what it would mean to go without water for a day. There are already two million Americans living without water service. With the stress of climate change and the challenges of maintaining water infrastructure that is a century old in some places, there is growing concern about the stability of water supplies and services.

“Fairfax Water strives to be forward-thinking in its infrastructure investment needs,” said Hedges. “We want our community to have high-quality water every time a tap is opened, to prepare meals, quench thirst, bathe children, wash clothes, and fight fires. Adequate infrastructure investment is essential to meeting our mission.”
