Project Status: September 30, 2019
This project received approval of its Special Exception and 2232 applications from the Fairfax County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. The project will now begin the Fairfax County Site Plan Review and detailed facility design.
Fairfax Water is proposing to build a new Central Maintenance Facility at 8505 Lee Highway to serve as a base of operations for water distribution system crews and other staff responsible for both routine and emergency maintenance activities for the public water distribution system. The proposed location is central to the county, has access to major roads, and is zoned for industrial use.
The latest site plan includes a warehouse building, administrative and maintenance building, fueling station and vehicle wash. The redeveloped site will include a significantly enhanced landscaped buffer on the southern portion of the property.
The facility has been designed with a distinctive architectural urban character and street presence to provide attractive curb appeal from Lee Highway, which can be seen below.
Two Public Information Sessions were conducted on February 19, 2019 and March 5, 2019 for both residential property owners and commercial tenants and property owners. The presentation can be found here.
