Dear Fellow Customer:

Water is essential to life and an essential ingredient to having a robust economy in Northern Virginia! No known life form can survive without it, so we truly live by the grace of water. Yet worldwide, 750 million people - more than twice the population of the United States - lack access to safe water. This sad statistic validates how important the statistics in this report are to our community – statistics that confirm the quality and safety of our drinking water. Without this vital resource, our physical, financial, and environmental health would be endangered. As Chairman of the Fairfax Water Board of Directors, I am charged, along with my fellow Board members, with ensuring that the quality and quantity of this vital resource remains constant. To this end, we recently initiated a process to update Fairfax Water’s strategic plan. Now that we have successfully integrated the Falls Church and Fairfax City water systems, our existing strategic plan to provide a unified water system to the people and businesses in Fairfax County has been accomplished. Our Board, along with staff members, is developing a fresh strategy for our next 58 years – a strategy that will ensure the highest quality water today, next year, and for decades to come. Longrange planning ensures we can expand as needed to meet future water demands without sacrificing quality. As you read this report, I hope you will be as pleased about the quality of your drinking water as we are proud to provide it. If you would like to share your comments, questions, suggestions or concerns about this report or Fairfax Water generally, we would enjoy hearing from you. Sincerely, Philip W. Allin Chairman Fairfax Water Board of Directors
