Hospital Tank Rehabilitation

Hospital Tank Rehabilitation

The Hospital Tank Rehabilitation project, now under construction, will extend the service life of the tank and comply with current tank design standards. Numerous improvements include full blast and repaint of the interior and exterior of the tank, structural and concrete foundation repairs, new ladders and climber safety systems, electrical and instrumentation improvements, replacement of the cathodic protection system, and other miscellaneous repairs.

A protective coatings specialty contractor has prepared the interior steel surface of the tank for application of new paint coatings. Rigid containment scaffolding has been erected in preparation for the coating application to the exterior steel surface of the tank, anticipated to be performed throughout the Summer.

During Fall/Winter, the tank interior will be pressure washed and disinfected using chlorine applied in a concentrated solution in accordance with AWWA Standards.  Following disinfection, the tank will be filled with water from our potable water system supply and tests will be performed for hydrostatic pressure, biological contaminants, and volatile organic compound contaminants in compliance with the current USEPA and VDH standards.  Exterior site work and landscaping will then be performed to restore any disturbed areas.

Rehabilitation of the tank is anticipated to be completed and placed in service in Winter 2022.
