Fairfax Water offers lead testing for private residences, facilities (such as schools or childcare centers), and businesses that are served directly by Fairfax Water. For private residences, there is a limit of one sample site per customer.
To be eligible for testing, customers must:
- Have a residence, facility, or business directly served by Fairfax Water
- Complete a Lead Free Service Line Survey prior to testing
When your request is submitted, a member of the Fairfax Water Lead Team will contact you to confirm your information and ensure that you are eligible for testing. Due to unusually high volume of requests submitted, there is currently a lead time of approximately 8 – 12 weeks for processing of requests. If you are eligible, staff will schedule your testing and give instructions on picking up your lead test kits at the Fairfax Water Customer Service lobby at:
8570 Executive Park Ave.
Fairfax, VA 22031
When you have completed the sampling, you will return the samples to the Fairfax Water Customer Service lobby. After samples are analyzed by Fairfax Water’s certified Drinking Water laboratory, a written report of results will be forwarded to you. Due to the unusually high volume of requests, this process may take up to 8-10 weeks from the time your samples are received by the laboratory.
For each sample site (tap/faucet), there is a fee of $79. For customers of Fairfax Water with a current account, billing for lead testing services will be done through your account. For customers without an account with Fairfax Water, payment must be made by check, money order or cash only at the time of sample kit pick up.
