Sleepy Hollow Transmission Main

Sleepy Hollow Transmission Main

Since acquiring the City of Falls Church water system in January 2014, Fairfax Water has been implementing measures to integrate the City’s facilities into Fairfax Water's existing water transmission and distribution system. The Seven Corners area, located on high ground and near the outer edges of the two historic water systems, experiences delivery pressures lower than those typically experienced elsewhere in Fairfax Water’s system and has been identified as a priority for system improvement.

The Sleepy Hollow Road Transmission min is the first of several upgrades needed to improve pressure, fire flow and resiliency in the Seven Corners area and connect to the planned Sleepy Hollow Pump Station.

Phase 1 (Arlington Boulevard to Sleepy Hollow Road)

This phase of work includes the construction of 2,300-foot 24-inch suction main and a 300-foot section of the 24-inch discharge main in Aspen Lane and Sleepy Hollow Road.

Construction activities for February 2023:

  • Material Receipt
  • Survey and Layout

Phase 2 (Route 7 at Patrick Henry Drive)

This phase of work includes a 530-foot section of the 24-inch discharge main in the Route 7 and Patrick Henry Drive intersection, and the abandonment of approximately 900 feet of cast-iron distribution mains in Route 7.

Construction activities for February 2023 and March 2023:

  • Concrete Repairs
  • Restoration

Phase 3 (Sleepy Hollow Road to Route 7)

This phase of work includes the construction of 2,600 feet of 24-inch water main along Nicholson Street and Juniper Lane in the Seven Corners area.

Construction activities for February 2023 and March 2023:

  • Ductile Iron Pipe Installation
