To ensure a safe, continuous and reliable
drinking water supply, Fairfax Water must increase the amount of
water stored in the distribution system. Construction of the
proposed Phase 1 storage tank is part of a multi-million dollar
investment being made by Fairfax Water to increase system
reliability. The system reliability improvements project will
also add standby power generation at several major water
production and pumping facilities.
With a capacity of 5.5-million gallons, this new water storage
tank will be located adjacent to the existing elevated storage
tank on West Ox Road in the Penderwood area.
Storage tank construction is estimated to take approximately
18-months. Construction activity will be restricted to normal
working hours. The impact to traffic flow on West Ox Road is
expected to be minimal. Every effort will be made to minimize
dust, silt and environmental impacts during construction. All
applicable County construction requirements will be satisfied
during this work. Disturbed unpaved areas will receive new
plantings or be seeded with grass upon completion of the storage
tank installation.
